Why Do children always think that there is an invisible monster in water?

When I was little, I remember being SO afraid of the water, just because I though that there might be an invisible shark in the water. The other day, my neighbors came down to swim in my pool. One of them wouldn't go in because they thought that there might be something (shark, monster, etc.) in the water. All of the others agreed. Why?!
